Recipe Review: Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs

Note: I found this recipe on Facebook, but to view this recipe in its entirety, click here.

Let me let you in on a little secret, I love food! You already guessed that? Drats! But in all seriousness, most of the recipes I make I find on Facebook. Yeah, you can probably guess I am always on Facebook too and in my saved folder, you will find 101 recipes I just want to try!

Lo’ and behold, it was the Mozzarella Stuffed Meatballs. I don’t know what I liked more about it, that it was meatballs in general, or that it was cheesed stuff. Then I saw that you add the sausage in, so you know me that was a must try.

Well, here are the ingredients you will need to make these meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork or mild italian sausage
  • 1 c breadcrumbs
  • 1 Tbsp italian seasoning
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 lb mozzarella, cut into cubes
  • olive oil
  • 1 jar(s) marinara sauce (or homemade sauce)

Nothing too, too bad. Basically, you just need seasoning, meat, and cheese. Nothing that will really break the bank.

Here are the instructions:

  • In a large bowl, mix ingredients from the beef through pepper. Form into 2″ balls.
  • 2 Press a cheese cube in the middle and seal the meat around it.
  • 3 Heat 1/2″ olive oil in a large skillet. Brown meatballs and then set aside on plate.
  • 4 Pour marinara sauce into pan; bring to a simmer. Add meatballs and simmer until cooked through, about 30 minutes.
  • 5 Serve over spaghetti or in a sub roll!!!

The end result was okay. I didn’t really like them with the sausage mixed in. Don’t get me wrong, I love sausage, but it just didn’t taste right to me. I mean, I would make them again, but with only ground beef. Again, that is just my preference. I would highly suggest making them because they are very, very cheap. I may have spent $5 on this meal because I just had to buy the meat, so it was not bad at all.
