Beginner-Friendly: How to Make A Heart-Shaped Pizza Pillow

I was given a sewing machine courtesy of my older sister a few months ago. Mind you, I haven’t sewn anything since Home Economics in middle school. However, that didn’t stop me from meandering down to Jo-ann Fabrics to look at the fabric section. This is where the heart-shaped pizza pillow came to fruition.

Is This Pattern for Beginners?

As someone who hasn’t had an inkling of properly sewing anymore. I can attest that this pattern is very beginner-friendly. All you need is some common sense and faith, which should come out great!

Plus, I want you to know that I didn’t use any patterns when making this pillow. I completely winged this and hoped for the best and it turned out amazing.

What Materials Do You Need?

The materials you need to make the heart-shaped pizza pillow are as follows:

  • Sewing Machine
  • Heart-Shaped Pizza Fabric
  • Pins
  • Matching Colored Thread
  • Sewing Needle
  • Poly-Fil Stuffing

And that is it. If you are new at sewing or have been sewing for many years, you need the basic equipment to create a pillow.

Where Did You Purchase the Heart-Shaped Pizza Fabric?

A question that I got a lot when I showed my friends my heart-shaped pizza fabric was, “Where did you purchase that fabric?” I purchased it from Jo-anns! However, upon looking I don’t see it listed on their site or in their location in my area.

If you are dying to get your hands on the exact fabric that I have, I found a listing on Etsy by  PalmettoNorth. Where they have a Fat Quarter ready to ship for $3.99 plus shipping!

How to Create a Heart-Shaped Pizza Pillow?

How to create a heart-shaped pizza pillow is easy! By following these few steps, you’ll have the most perfect heart-shaped pizza pillow:

1. Cut your Fabric in half.

2. Fold your pieces of fabric in half.

3. Trace out a heart shape.

4. Cut out said heart shape

5. Pin the two pieces together. This will help making sewing easier.

6. Sew the pieces of fabric together, but leave an opening for you to stuff it.

7. Turn the fabric outside in and you can start stuffing!

8. Hand sew the hole you stuffed your pillow with closed.

It’s that easy. This project shouldn’t take you long at all. Even if you are new. This project took me about 20-30 minutes to complete. The hardest part for me was getting back into learning how to hand sewing the whole shut. Once you get the hang of it, it’s very easy to do!
